Ozark Trail Cooler

An Ozark Trail cooler is either a basic hard cooler for a day out, a roto-molded High Performance cooler built to hold ice for days, a 12V electric cooler that needs no ice, or a soft cooler. Size is listed in quarts and cans; the quarts tell you about ice, the cans about drinks.

Ozark Trail cooler sizes, quarts to cans

Can counts assume cans only, no ice. With ice for a weekend, plan on about half the listed cans.

Quarts and cans from the Walmart listing titles. The soft tote packs more cans per quart because its sides flex.

How long does ice last in an Ozark Trail cooler?

Real tests from owners and testers on the roto-molded and rolling coolers. Conditions matter more than any claim.

Make the ice last longer

The habits that separate a two-day cooler from a five-day one.

1Pre-chill itFill it with a sacrificial bag of ice or frozen packs the night before.
2Block ice under cubesBlocks melt slower; cubes fill the gaps. Aim for about two parts ice to one part food.
3Keep it shut and shadedEvery opening costs ice. Keep drinks in a second cooler and park the food cooler in the shade.
4Leave the meltwaterCold water insulates the ice. Drain it only when it reaches the food.

What Ozark Trail cooler owners say

Compared side by side with a Lifetime, the Ozark Trail lid kept its shape under weight. Ice lasted 4 days on the first trip and it stayed cold into day 5 without leaking.

The drain cap is the weak spot: it is not insulated and sweats condensation, one 52 qt owner found. Another lost the plug and could not find a replacement part.

One owner rates their wheeled cooler with the collapsible handle as good as a Yeti after heavy use.

Ozark Trail cooler questions

Choosing

Is the Ozark Trail cooler as good as a Yeti?

The roto-molded High Performance coolers came close in owner and tester ice tests; in OutdoorHub’s 2021 test the 45 qt rolling cooler finished colder than a Yeti Tundra Haul. Yeti’s build and warranty support are the reasons owners still pay more.

Do Ozark Trail coolers come with a warranty?

Only some do. The roto-molded High Performance line lists the longest cover, and at least one larger hard cooler listing shows none, so read the manual for your size. Warranty by product

Use

How does the HighLine electric cooler work?

It plugs into a 12V car outlet and cools without ice, so the space you would give to ice holds food instead. It needs power the whole time to stay cold.

Are Ozark Trail roto-molded coolers bear resistant?

OutdoorHub reported the 45 qt Rolling Thermocooler as IGBC certified bear resistant. Check the listing for your model before relying on it.
