Ozark Trail Tents

Ozark Trail tents cover every kind of night out, from a 3.65 lb 1-person backpacking tent to a 20-person cabin with a screen room. The number on the box counts adults in sleeping bags, so pick by floor size, how you sleep and the weather you camp in.

How many people really fit in an Ozark Trail tent

The person rating means adults packed side by side in sleeping bags. Bring air mattresses and the real number drops. This table counts how many 60 in x 80 in queen air mattresses each floor holds.

Keep an Ozark Trail tent dry

Owners who stay dry in storms do the same few things. Most of them happen at home, before the first trip.

  1. Pitch it at home

Set it up in the yard once. You learn the poles, find any weak seams and can still return it.

  2. Seal the seams

Run seam sealer along every seam on the fly and floor from the inside, then spray the fly with a water repellent once it is dry.

  3. Tuck the ground tarp

Fold the tarp so no edge sticks out past the floor. An exposed edge catches rain and runs it under the tent.

  4. Guy out every line

Stake every guy line, even on a calm evening. Cabin walls act like a sail when the wind picks up overnight.

  5. Add a tarp roof

On cabin tents the fly stops at the roof, so sideways rain reaches the windows. A tarp on a ridgeline above the tent fixes it.

  6. Dry it before storing

Even morning dew turns to mildew in the bag. Set it up again at home and let it dry fully.

What Ozark Trail tent owners say

One owner likes the instant cabins but says they are made for warm, mild weather: big windows and a fly that covers only the roof. They got wet only when rain blew sideways.

valley_lemon on r/camping, April 2025

A 6-person Ozark Trail tent bought in 2007 had no holes and still shed water 13 years later, used only at established state park sites.

zesco28z on r/camping, May 2020

One owner’s 6-person tent lasted three to four years, until it was packed away wet by accident and mildew ruined it.

Ozark Trail tent questions

Weather

Are Ozark Trail tents waterproof?

Many owners stay dry through hard rain, especially after seam sealing and a repellent spray. Weak spots are the floor corners and, on cabin tents, windows the fly does not cover. Treat them as fair-weather tents and add a tarp when storms are forecast.

Can an Ozark Trail tent handle wind?

Small domes cope better than tall cabins, whose straight walls catch the wind. Stake every guy line, and on an exposed site in strong wind, take a big cabin tent down before it takes itself down.

Size and care

How many people fit in a 6-person Ozark Trail tent?

The 6-person instant cabin has a 10 ft x 9 ft floor. That holds two queen air mattresses, so four adults sleep in comfort, or two adults and three small kids.

How long do Ozark Trail tents last?

Owners report anything from two years to more than a decade. The ones that last are dried before storage, kept on a ground tarp and folded rather than stuffed into the bag.

Can I replace a broken Ozark Trail tent pole?

On dome tents, yes; a universal pole kit or the maker’s warranty line will usually cover it. Instant cabin frames are built in, so a broken hub or leg is harder to replace. See the replacement parts page.

Warranty

What is the Ozark Trail tent warranty?

Six months on the tent manuals we read, from the company that made the tent, with its phone number in the manual. Inside 90 days, Walmart will usually take it back.
