Fit and care
A daypack carries best high and close to your back. The care steps come from the label.
- Load heavy things close
Water and food go against your back, layers on the outside.
- Set the shoulder straps
Tighten until the top of the pack sits just below the base of your neck.
- Clip the sternum strap
Slide it to about armpit height so the straps stay put on a climb.
- Clean it by hand
Mild soap and a damp sponge, then air dry with the zippers open. The label says not to machine wash or dry it.
What owners say
One reviewer found the zippers a little hard to open because of the flaps that cover them, and took that as a sign the pack keeps rain out well.
Robin, Walmart review, July 2026Another calls it light and compact, with sturdy straps, and says the listing describes it accurately.
Andrew, Walmart review, September 2026An owner of an Ozark Trail backpack says it has held up fine as an everyday truck bag, though she would not expect years of daily school and gym abuse from it.

The pack
How big is the Ozark Trail Hiker Backpack?
It holds 25 L and weighs about 1 lb, according to the Walmart listing. That is a standard day-hike size.
Is the Ozark Trail Hiker Backpack waterproof?
Walmart does not list it as waterproof. It is polyester with covered zippers, so it shrugs off a shower, but use a pack cover or a dry bag inside for steady rain.
Does it come with a water bladder?
No. It is hydration compatible, so a reservoir fits, but one is not included. The Pearson Creek pack comes with a 2 L reservoir.
Will a laptop fit?
Walmart does not list a laptop sleeve for the Hiker. If a padded sleeve matters, the Asheville 22 L daypack has one for a 15 in laptop.
Care and warranty
Can I put it in the washing machine?
No. The care label says to clean it with mild soap and a damp sponge and let it air dry with the zippers open.
What is the warranty on the Hiker Backpack?
A limited lifetime warranty against defects for normal use. Wear and tear, fading and accidental damage are not covered. The listing gives the claim line as 1-833-908-2025, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Central.
